A bit tight at first but, with some air, this opens very nicely, revealing boysenberry fruit with hints of peach, leather, dried herbs, licorice and light cracked pepper. Broad on entry with a touch of sweetness from the alcohol but well structured. The tannins help ground the mid-palate, which offers nice fruit but a very fine earthy underlay as well. The backend is rich and layered with cocoa and licorice accents before yielding to the ripe berry fruit and light dusting of pepper on the moderately long finish. This has a nice firmness yet remains rather transparent and holds its alcohol remarkably well. 92pts

Somewhat murky prune color. On the palate, an immediate hit of ripe stone fruits—plum, peach. Sprightly sensation on the tongue—like an astringency or effervescence. Also, a tartness that seems to hit the front of the tongue. Normally, I seem to get that at the back. Some minerally sensations at the back of the palate. A very lengthy, cherry finish. US$18.79 at Costco in 2010.

My husband and I both found this wine to be absolutely delightful. I would describe it as round, jammy and a little spicy with a wonderful lingering finish. We will add this syrah into our regular rotation of red wines.

Showing a deep ruby-red at its core, the color fades slightly to a thin, dark crimson rim. The nose explodes from the glass with boldly perfumed aromas of cassis and dark berries with complementary notes sage and vanilla spice. The palate is plush ... Chris Caughman. 93 Points - Wine Spectator Smart Buy "Offering wonderful floral, grapey plum and wild berry aromas, this is rich, smooth and supple on the palate, with tiers dark berry, mocha, mineral and spice flavors that glide along. Drink now through 2015.--J.L." -Jan 31-Feb 28, 2010.

Winemaker's Notes:

Our Syrah displays rich blackberry, cassis, espresso, mocha and our signature sage spice aromas and flavors. The silky finish lingers from the ripe tannins and smoky oak. This full-bodied wine should be enjoyed over the next ten years. A traditional pairing for this wine is a rack of lamb with rosemary and garlic. Grilled meats and bold cheese will also pair well.
