Zaca Mesa Santa Ynez Syrah 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Our Syrah displays rich blackberry, cassis, espresso, mocha and our signature sage spice aromas and flavors. The silky finish lingers from the ripe tannins and smoky oak. This full-bodied wine should be enjoyed over the next ten years. A traditional pairing for this wine is a rack of lamb with rosemary and garlic. Grilled meats and bold cheese will also pair well.

Offering wonderful floral, grapey plum and wild berry aromas, this is rich, smooth and supple on the palate, with tiers of dark berry, mocha, mineral and spice flavors that glide along. Drink now through 2015.

The 2007 Syrah has a much more saturated ruby/purple-tinged color, more sweet black currant and cherry fruit in the nose, slightly more texture and richness, and overall displays the superiority of this vintage in the Central Coast. Drink it over the next 1andndash;2 years.

A bit more rugged and rustic than Zaca Mesaandrsquo;s more expensive andrsquo;07 Syrahs, and also somewhat less ripe. But itandrsquo;s a dry, rich and smoothly textured wine, good for drinking now.

The Santa Ynez Valley runs east from the Pacific, and acts as a funnel for ocean winds and fog. This helps to recreate the terrior of France's Northern Rhone. Impenetrably dark, rich and powerful, this Syrah has all the "in your face" fruitiness of an Aussie style Shiraz, while retaining a level of acidity and finesse usually attainable only in France. A traditional pairing for this hand-crafted Syrah is a rack of lamb with rosemary and garlic. Grilled meats and bold cheeses also pair well.

Rustic, with rough-hewn mineral, dried berry, sage, roasted herb and road tar flavors that provide a measure of complexity, depth and focus. Drink now through 2016.
