Chateau d'Yquem is one of the most highly-regarded dessert wines in the world. In the famous 1855 classification of Bordeaux, Château d’Yquem was the only domaine to be accorded the rank of Premier Cru Supérieur. Produced from painstakingly handpicked grapes and severe selection in the winery, only 1 glass of wine per vine is produced at d’Yquem. Beautiful apple, vanilla and honey aromas, with just the right amount of new wood. Full-bodied, medium sweet, with lots of pretty pineapple, honey and new wood. Long and refined. The quality of the Yquem 2002 vis-à-vis the ensuing two vintages really surprised me: this is a superb Sauternes coming in with 125 gms/L residual.
