Yering Station Shiraz Blend Yarra Valley Shiraz Viognier 2006
The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards situated in the cooler climate areas of the Yarra valley, not too far from Melbourne. The addition of 5% Viogner to the Shiraz adds an element of opulent aromatic character to the nose and softens the palate, a technique used traditionally in the Cote Rotie area of the Northern Rhone. The wine is deep garnet in colour with a complex and powerful nose, it has aromas of ripe berries, complex violet, liquorice and spice with a tarry oak complexity. The palate is full and rich with liquorice and floral flavours. Well balanced with soft ripe tannins and a silky, long and clean finish. Easy to match with a variety of dishes, from grilled or roasted white meats to pan fried, roasted or barbecued red meats, pasta dishes and cheese.
