What to Expect
Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.
Winemakers Notes
The Reserve [ yellow tail ] Shiraz has lifted aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries and dark chocolate. A range of intense, ripe fruit flavours flow across the palate with dark cherry and berry fruit flavours which is enhanced with hints of cracked pepper, mocha and spice. Seamless and well structured tannins complete this exceptional full-bodied wine.

An intensely concentrated wine, Yellow Tail The Reserve Shiraz initially reveals aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries, chocolate and mocha. Delving deeper into this complex wine, cracked pepper and spice fragrance are apparent with sweet French oak aromas always present. The vanilla softness on the nose takes you into a full palate crammed with ripe fruits reminiscent of a basket of sweet summer berries. Seamless and well structured tannins complete this full bodied red wine. A perfect accompaniment to this wine would be rich rare char-grilled beef and asparagus or a rich confit de canard read more...
I kind of cut my wine teeth some years ago on Yellow Tail Shiraz. Jammy and simple for sure, but also fun and approachable, and we were buying it like crazy. And it kind of helped get me in to wine.
So fast forward almost a decade and it has been a long time since I've had a bottle of Yellow Tail. But I had heard some good things about the Reserve Shiraz, and it had shown up on some best buy lists, so I when my grocer had it for about half price I thought what the heck. I was pleasantly surprised. It had a nice nose with lots of raspberry and cherry aromas, and on the palate it was fairly concentrated read more...
