Yealands Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

The Seaview vineyard is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough; high sunshine and wind, cool nights and low rainfall which produces a smaller, thicker skinned berry with intense fruit flavors.

Intense gooseberry and asparagus aromas greet the nose followed by notes of roasted chilies and very ripe pineapple. This is clean and fresh in the mouth with a lovely texture but the asparagus aromas are going to be off putting to many. Not terribly fruit driven, there are some nice green apple and over-ripe pineapple flavors on the mid palate and a fine mineral underlay on the fairly long finish with hints of greengage plums but the signature mark here is asparagus. I like the texture and freshness, and would recommend this if you’re serving asparagus but other wise be forewarned. 84pts

This bargain Sauvignon is leafy and intense on the nose, with fig, ripe citrus and herbal overtones on the palate. It?s plump and round, and decently concentrated for the price.
