Yamhill Valley Pinot Noir 2007

Member Review by Steve963:

Great fruit on the nose, cherry, plum, berry, with a medium body. Lingers well with plum and a touch of oak. However, the 2008 vintage is MUCH better!!!

Yamhill Valley Vineyards is located on a 150 acre estate in the rolling foothills of Oregon's Coast Range Mountains, one hour southwest of Portland in the Willamette Valley. The heart of our wine making is dedicated to Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. We believe that the distinctive, rich character of our wines is created in the vineyard and reaches full potential through the timely application of attentive wine making practices. While keenly aware of traditional methods, we are committed to exploring new technologies and innovative techniques. Since our first vintage in 1983 our wines have consistently won top honors in tastings and judgings across the nation. Our 1983 Pinot Noir was the first place preference in the famous Wine Center in New York City. From our beginning we have been stubbornly dedicated to the pursuit of a character that is distinctively Oregon and distinctively Yamhill Valley. Our goal is to bring forth from this unusual and exciting property the finest possible expression of its intensity, charm and uniqueness. We are family owned and operated, and every wine that we produce is estate grown and bottled. We invite you to join us for tastings at the winery every day from Memorial Weekend through the Thanksgiving weekend and on weekends from mid March to Memorial weekend. We are closed in the winter months. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

This was my "epiphany wine" for Oregon Pinot noir beginning with my first sip circa 1986. I had it many times between then and 2009 but here are the tasting notes for my last bottle: 1983 Yamhill Valley Vineyards Oregon Pinot noir: this is the last bottle I’ll probably ever have of my “epiphany” wine; medium-dark ruby color with virtually no sign of age; initially I got a very Burg-like nose (dare I say Dujac?); a mix of red and black cherry fruit with some spiciness in the background; still remarkably “young” with acidity still in evidence and balanced by the fruit; I even got a slight bit of tannin on the long finish; incredible for a nearly 26-year old wine even though I had inadvertently stirred the sediment up a little bit; [6/11/09] at home with The Tuesday Group That Meets on Thursday. Oh, how I wish I had more. Email me at pinot@bellsouth.net if you have any you want to sell or trade.

Tasting Notes:

This is a wine of finesse and delicacy, which resulted from a typical year of Oregon weather. More rain at the end of the growing season led to a less concentrated wine that resembles garnet in hue and has a prominent smokiness in the nose. A unique wine thanks to the climate. This wine received the bronze medal at the NW Wine Summit, a wine competition among wineries in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia. Enjoy with lamb or meaty fish such as salmon.
