Wine SpectatorThe Y Series Viognier presents well defined ripe peach and honeysuckle aromas with a hint of mace. Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around". Six generations and more than 150 years later Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery, has grown in size and stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over. Yalumba wines have a style all of their own and each have been influenced by a diverse range of elements. Elements Yalumba likes to call 'the controllables', such as the Yalumba Vine Nursery and on-site cooperage – as well as other factors that cannot be emulated by any other winery. Yalumba’s history and tradition combined with a reputation for innovation. Sunflowers and hay on the nose with a touch of honey and cream. Seemingly sweet approach, mostly from the dried apricot and honey flavors, there's a good mouthfeel here, puckering acidity to balance the alcohol, a good dose of honeydew melon and lemon, and a touch of lemongrass on the finish.

A nose of subtropical flowers (even dandelion), smooth and semi-sweet on entry with a hint of stem-like bitterness on the finish (not unusual). A bit too muscular on the flowery elements for some, but a sound wine at a great price. 87 points.

Yalumba Y Series Viognier is a pale gold with green hues. The aroma offers intense white flowers and honeysuckle, with hints of apricot nectar. The palate is rich and very long and ripe, with citrus and tropical fruit flavors.

Fresh and expressive, packed with pineapple, pear and spice, smells sweet but finishes dry and silky. Drink now.

Vibrant fruit notes, but an oily, smooth texture. This is a terrific alternative to your favorite Chardonnay, but with no toast or oak notes. Lovely pear, peach and banana fruit notes. Try serving the Yalumba with grilled chicken or paella.

Light, bright gold. Ripe pit and orchard fruit aromas are lifted by notes of ginger and jasmine. Fleshy and broad, with good heft to its peach and poached pear flavors. Closes with solid punch, lingering spiciness and a subtle note of gingerbread.
