Yalumba Viognier Eden Valley 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

A little vanilla biscuit greets the nose along with subtle notes of ginger, jasmine, dried orange peel and curry leaf. Bright and round on entry, this quickly gains some impressive snap on the palate. There’s plenty of richness but the acid keeps this quite focused. The fruit is gentle if distinct with a creamy edge to the toasted almond, lime and pineapple-tinged core of white peach fruit. The finish shows more mineral notes and an almost stern quality. Through its rather long duration, this shows a bed of dried lime peel and apricot-toned fruit. A rather serious and powerful example of Viognier and quite fine at that. 92pts

Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around". Six generations and more than 150 years later Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery, has grown in size and stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over. Yalumba wines have a style all of their own and each have been influenced by a diverse range of elements. Elements Yalumba likes to call 'the controllables', such as the Yalumba Vine Nursery and on-site cooperage – as well as other factors that cannot be emulated by any other winery. Yalumba’s history and tradition combined with a reputation for innovation. Binny's 8/2015. Was forced to use 8 oz. in a Braciole recipe, but downed the rest a couple days later. Really enjoyed it with my mom on her 90th birthday. Stood up to a stout homemade vegetable soup. I must like it, this is the third bottle I have purchased over the last five years. Usually I am a one and done with wine. So many wines, so little time.

Rich, with some spicy notes. More on the floral side with nice mouth feel and a good finish.

Melded with the peach and apricot silkiness is an exotic spice twist plus a hint of lemon, and honeysuckle. Weighty palate, delicious drinking. http://www.spittoon.biz/a_wine_for_curry_1_murgh_masal.html

Another great white. Full of flavor and has lots of body. Another great buy and great with fish or Asian cuisines.

eesh. Call me crazy but i got Vienna sausage on the nose and couldn't break the thought. I think it's supposed to be floral but smelled more like fermented flowers to me. Weird and savory. Bitter on the palate. Not a fan.

Yalumba Y Series Viognier is a pale gold with green hues. The aroma offers intense white flowers and honeysuckle, with hints of apricot nectar. The palate is rich and very long and ripe, with citrus and tropical fruit flavors.

Bright and round, with a coconut edge to the pear and tropical fruit flavors. Medium bodied with a lingering polished finish. Stainless steel fermented.
