A little vanilla biscuit greets the nose along with subtle notes of ginger, jasmine, dried orange peel and curry leaf. Bright and round on entry, this quickly gains some impressive snap on the palate. There’s plenty of richness but the acid keeps this quite focused. The fruit is gentle if distinct with a creamy edge to the toasted almond, lime and pineapple-tinged core of white peach fruit. The finish shows more mineral notes and an almost stern quality. Through its rather long duration, this shows a bed of dried lime peel and apricot-toned fruit. A rather serious and powerful example of Viognier and quite fine at that. 92pts

The Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier 2010 is perfumed and luscious – displaying all the essence of the Viognier variety. It has pure aromas of apricot nectar, lifted honeysuckle and orange oil perfume. The palate is long, rich and luscious, with intense stone fruit – particularly apricots – and finishing with an aromatic citrus freshness. Perfect with Moroccan food, spiced duck and anything lamb.
