Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around". Six generations and more than 150 years later Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery, has grown in size and stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over. Yalumba wines have a style all of their own and each have been influenced by a diverse range of elements. Elements Yalumba likes to call 'the controllables', such as the Yalumba Vine Nursery and on-site cooperage – as well as other factors that cannot be emulated by any other winery. Yalumba’s history and tradition combined with a reputation for innovation. Big red and black fruit aromas, heat and spice in equal measure. Palate has an explosive amount of fresh acidity, black pepper, bold tarry notes, black fruit, a hint of eucalyptus, and a long finish with licorice and a touch of cream.

Spicy floral nose with some lychee nut. A little bitter in the mouth and on the finish. Tried pairing it with sushi tonight and it was a disaster.

Nice fennel and mint nose with some chocolate tones as well. Its got a sweetness to the nose thats nice as well. Its a fragrant, light syrah - light earthiness, but generally very aromatic, fragrant and fruity. A very juicy wine. Some licorice on the finish, but the viognier counteracts it well.

Very disappointed in this. I love Yalumba Viognier and thought I would like this, as I like Shiraz as well. This was awkward and spicy, not in a good way. Couldn't finish the glass.

A decent buy, but not as big as I'd like.

This is a really nice alternative to that big, brooding style of Shiraz. Fresh, red berries, and the Viognier adds a lovely lift, brightness and floral aromas - which I find quite pretty. I enjoyed this a lot over the summer.

very surprising and interesting blend of Shiraz and Viognier. Has a lot of pepper and raspberry. Drinkable - works with spicy food. I liked it and will buy more at this price <$10

oh come on solomania9, you pair a big red wine with sushi, and you blame the wine? I'm afraid that was your fault. Also, after a brief decanting, all bitterness turns into a beautifully balanced wine.

Nice floral nose. Sour cherries, tar, leather on the taste. Medium body and not overly long.

Weingut: YalumbaAnbauregion: Eden ValleyRebsorte: Shiraz, ViognierInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 13,5 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 6,3 g/lRestsüße: trockenFassreife: in Barriques gereift (9 Monate)Empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16 °CLagerfähigkeit: 3-5 Jahre ab JahrgangAuszeichnungen:4,5 Platter StarsVeritas SilberMichelangelo GoldMundus Vini Gold Rotwein > Australien > Eden Valley

Aromas of blackberry and flowers. Juicy berry flavors with hints of tobacco and violets. Soft and approachable. The perfect red to entertain a group with a wide range of tastes.
