What to Expect

Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.

Winemakers Notes

A combination of small (8 tonne) and large (30 tonne) fermenters have been used with a fermentation cycle of 8 to 12 days. Select parcels were fermented with a percentage of Viognier grapes, whilst other parcels were fermented with Viognier juice. This has produced a soft and stylish wine showing subtle Viognier aromatics combined with the medium weight and structure of Shiraz. This wine is deep purpley red in colour, displaying an aroma of sweet fragrant plums and bright red-berried fruits along with a fine cedar tone and just the subtle floral notes of Viognier. A medium to full bodied wine, read more...

Reviews

Nice fennel and mint nose with some chocolate tones as well. Its got a sweetness to the nose thats nice as well. Its a fragrant, light syrah - light earthiness, but generally very aromatic, fragrant and fruity. A very juicy wine. Some licorice on the finish, but the viognier counteracts it well.

Aromas of blackberry and flowers. Juicy berry flavors with hints of tobacco and violets. Soft and approachable. The perfect red to entertain a group with a wide range of tastes.

Nice floral nose. Sour cherries, tar, leather on the taste. Medium body and not overly long.

Very disappointed in this. I love Yalumba Viognier and thought I would like this, as I like Shiraz as well. This was awkward and spicy, not in a good way. Couldn't finish the glass.

Spicy floral nose with some lychee nut. A little bitter in the mouth and on the finish. Tried pairing it with sushi tonight and it was a disaster.
