Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around". Six generations and more than 150 years later Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery, has grown in size and stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over. Yalumba wines have a style all of their own and each have been influenced by a diverse range of elements. Elements Yalumba likes to call 'the controllables', such as the Yalumba Vine Nursery and on-site cooperage – as well as other factors that cannot be emulated by any other winery. Yalumba’s history and tradition combined with a reputation for innovation. Wow! I got this on sale for 11 bucks, not expecting too much, just liked the label. Complex nose, followed by fig and warm berry (berry cobbler?) on the palate. It seemed pretty tannic to me, for something at this price range, and I'm guessing it will actually cellar well. (but the overall effect was still nice). I bet it could pass for a pricey bordeaux in a blind tasting!

Opaque ruby. Pungent smoke-accented aromas of cherry pit blackcurrant and pipe tobacco with a suave floral overtone. Fleshy and expansive dark fruit flavors tighten up with air and are lifted by a peppery spice nuance. Dusty tannins add grip to a long floral-driven finish of appealing sweetness. Smooth and refined this is rich with cherry smoke and spice flavors that push through a veil of scratchy tannins and linger on the finish. Best from 2014 through 2018. -HS Wine Spectator.

Weingut: YalumbaLand: AustralienRegion: South Eastern Australia - South AustraliaRebsorte: Cabernet Sauvingon, ShirazInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 13,0 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 6,5 g/lRestsüße: trockenLagerfähigkeit: 3 - 4 Jahre ab Jahrgang Fassreife: in Barriques gereift (6 Monate)Empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16-18 °C Rotwein > Australien > South Eastern Australia

Yalumba Y Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 is a rich and vibrant wine ofexceptional varietal flavour and generous fruit. Full depth, purple red incolour, it shows bright and lively aromas of violets, spices, cherries andeucalypts which are supported by subtle hints of mocha chocolate. A wine ofstructure, yet soft and supple with a generously textured mid palate.
