MERVEILLEUX

The 1988 is a more backward-styled Yquem than the 1989, built along the lines of the extraordinary 1975. With a honeyed, smoky, orange/coconut/pineapple-scented nose, this powerful wine possesses full body, layers of highly concentrated, extracted flavors, considerable botrytis, and a sensational finish. The Colour was deep and gold with glimpse of shiny orange. The nose was floral and complex. Multiple aromas of butter, honey, nuts lifted by lemon zest. At first, the onctuous wine develop rich honey suckle and spice. Then the mid palate explode with powerful flavours of white flowers and creme brulee. The acidity is well integrated and balance perfectly with the sweetness. The length is divine and goes on and on... Very much in its youth, this example of Chateau d'Yquem prove to be near perfection and should evolve beautifully over the next 30 to 40 years. QC http://www.questionofwine.blogspot.com

Picked predominantly over 10 days from October 14, the 2010 d'Yquem has 141gms/L residual sugar and pH 3.80. It is a slow-burner, the nose understated at first but unfurling with each passing moment with subtle scents of freshly sliced apricots, Clem... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. In 1593, the Sauvage family acquired Château d'Yquem, which came into the Lur Saluces family when Francoise Joséphine de Sauvage married Count Louis Amédée de Lur Saluces in 1785. Count Alexandre de Lur Saluces perpetuated his family's tradition as manager of Château d'Yquem for more than 35 years. His efforts were guided by a single philosophy: an uncompromising approach to the highest quality, vintage after vintage. Thanks to his determination, this great wine's reputation reached new heights. All famous wine lovers, from Jefferson to Tognini, by way of Grand Duke Constantine of Russia, confirmed Yquem's greatness as the years went on. In May 2004, L.V.M.H. / Louis Vuitton - Moët Hennessy, main shareholders of Château d'Yquem since 1999, asked Pierre Lurton to take over management of the estate. Member of a famous Bordeaux wine family, this passionate winemaker and viticulturalist, who is also in charge of Château Cheval Blanc in Saint-Emilion and Cheval des Andes in Argentina, has all the necessary qualities to maintain Yquem's legendary reputation with a respect for tradition and an openness to modernity.

80% Semillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc. A beautiful balanced, elegant and textured wine. Incredible focus and length loaded with creme brulee, citrus, honey, and apricots. There is great richness and viscosity with impeccable acids to keep it in check. ... Geoffrey Binder. A Sauternes Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Chateau dYquem 750ml

The 2009 Yquem has an almost ethereal nose, beautifully defined with scents of honey, honeysuckle, pear, fresh apricot and a hint of quince. It blossoms in the glass, gaining intensity and expanding across the ether. The immediate impression is not of a powerful, rich, botrytis-laden Yquem, but one that has semblances with the 2007 in terms of poise and precision, the acidity defining the wine in its youth and around that, subtle notes of honey, fig, pear, apricot and just a hint of ginger adding vibrancy and edginess towards the pure and tensile finish. As expected, there is extraordinary persistency, lingering in the mouth long after the wine has disappeared, yet it will remain long in the memory.
