Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz Coonawarra 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Deep crimson in colour. An alluring perfume of black cherries and violet, plums and creamy French oak. Bountiful but soft tannins coat the palate leaving a rich layering of supple blackberry and chocolate flavours in the mouth. Focussed fruit and savoury nuances create a wine of great structure and texture, yet with a defined elegant finish. A great expression of Coonawarra from a classic vintage, V & A is a textural, deep Shiraz with seductive fruit character, a beautifully balanced wine and a fitting tribute to the vineyards of V & A Lane. While offering the potential to develop marvelous complexity in a good cellar, V & A Shiraz is an engaging experience immediately upon release, after a decant and spell of breathing.

What is now Wynns Coonawarra Estate was founded by Scottish pioneer John Riddoch. He planted vineyards in 1891 and completed the estate's three-gabled winery. They created the famous label that has made John Riddoch's winery one of Australia's best known buildings. Read less

Wine Tasting NotesInky black red with a vibrant purple hue. Lifted aromas of red cherries with hints of black pepper and cinnamon oak rise from the glass. Exactly what you would expect from an ideal, cooler region shiraz. Finely structured yet powerful. Layers of fruit are framed by restrained oak, ensuring this is a wine for the long term. Fleshy red currant and plum flavors flood across the palate, leading to a delicate creamy and spicy oak finish.
