Wyndham Estate Shiraz Bin 555 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Tarry and gently spicy on the nose with mulberry and blackberry fruit framed by woodspice with a vanilla topnote. This enters the mouth with good acid-driven focus but it gains significant weight in the mouth, developing into a slightly rustic if rich mouthful of tannin-laced black cherry and blackberry fruit. There's a fair amount of oak spice here and a pretty peppery note on the mid-palate. The fruit fades rather quickly on the finish leaving rough, rustic tannins and some heat on the moderately long finish that does show some lingering red berry fruit on the finale. Plenty to like here for the price. 85pts

George Wyndham became the father of Australian Shiraz when he planted the country’s first commercial shiraz vineyard in 1830. It was here, in his vineyard and house that is now a Heritage Listed National Trust Treasure, that he dedicated his life to creating full-flavoured wines.  This proud legacy of innovation and dedication endures at Wyndham Estate, where knowledge and experience is built upon by each generation of winemakers. A wider range of distinctively full-flavoured wines are crafted today. Still, Shiraz remains the signature variety of Wyndham Estate - the birthplace of Australian Shiraz. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

This was a refreshing surprise. I didn't believe the label when it said it would go well with game, but this was the ultimate thanksgiving wine. Welch's grape soda meets Sam Adams chocolate bock beer. I don't know how else to describe it. Convincing the rest of my dinner party that this would be perfect was the toughest part. Everything else was smooth sailing.

Black plum and berry fruit aromas and flavors are ripe and fairly deep, especially considering this winersquo;s value price. A easy-drinking Shiraz with unexpected but pleasing tannins on the finish. A good by-the-glass pour, and a ldquo;I canrsquo;t believe this is $10rdquo; conversation starter at your next large gathering.
