Woodward Cyn Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

"This 2004 'Old Vines' Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich and powerful redwine. It expresses the purity of fully mature cabernet sauvignon fruitthat one only can get from 35 year old vines. The petit verdot offersanother layer of complexity and broadens the flavor profile of the winebeautifully. Flavors of dried black cherry and cassis married withspicy new oak and vanilla coats the mouth. The texture is soft andsilky yet there are firm mature tannins in the rich, long finish. Thecolor is dark blackish purple and complex fruit aromas leap from theglass. This red wine will benefit greatly from additional cellaringand, with proper storage, should last for twelve years or more."Winery Notes"Bright ruby-red. Deeply pitched aromasof blackberry, blackcurrant and nutty, smoky oak. Chewy, dense andsweet but tightly wound. Like the Artist Series wine, this finisheswith substantial tongue-coating tannins that seem to derive as muchfrom wood as from the grapes."Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Nov/Dec 07"The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines (35 years of age) elevates thebar. Composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, it isopaque purple-colored and delivers a superb perfume of pain grille, scorched earth, espresso, black currants, and blueberries. This isfollowed by an extracted wine with richly flavored dark fruits, outstanding concentration, and great balance leading to a 60-second,pure finish. Give this powerful wine 4-6 years of additional bottle ageand drink it through 2035."94 pointsJay Miller, Wine Advocate # 172, Aug 2007

Located in the Walla Walla Valley appellation of Washington State, Woodward Canyon Winery was started in 1981 by Rick Small and his wife, Darcey Fugman-Small. Since that time, the winery has consistently produced premium, award-winning cabernet sauvignons and merlots as well as chardonnays. Early on Rick determined that quality would take precedence over quantity. Consequently, Woodward Canyon has remained small, increasing its production from 1,200 cases in 1981 to our current production of about 17,000 cases. About 7,000 of this total production is Nelms Road, Woodward Canyon's second label. Click here to read more about Nelms Road. Woodward Canyon is a founding member of the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance and of Walla Walla Valley Vinea, the Winegrower's Sustainable Trust. Woodward Canyon Winery is located in Lowden, about 13 miles west of Walla Walla, Washington. Our tasting room is a restored 1870's farmhouse. Read less
