Located in the Walla Walla Valley appellation of Washington State, Woodward Canyon Winery was started in 1981 by Rick Small and his wife, Darcey Fugman-Small. Since that time, the winery has consistently produced premium, award-winning cabernet sauvignons and merlots as well as chardonnays. Early on Rick determined that quality would take precedence over quantity. Consequently, Woodward Canyon has remained small, increasing its production from 1,200 cases in 1981 to our current production of about 17,000 cases. About 7,000 of this total production is Nelms Road, Woodward Canyon's second label. Click here to read more about Nelms Road. Woodward Canyon is a founding member of the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance and of Walla Walla Valley Vinea, the Winegrower's Sustainable Trust. Woodward Canyon Winery is located in Lowden, about 13 miles west of Walla Walla, Washington. Our tasting room is a restored 1870's farmhouse. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Almost entirely Cabernet, this juice comes from some of Washington’s oldest vines. The color shows an inky concentration and the tannins are broad-shouldered. The nose is highly perfumed with coffee grinds, dark chocolate, blueberries, black plum and cassis.

I purchase a half of a case of this wine in the fall of 2007, after tasting it in the winery tasting room. We have kept it in our cave for the past 13 months. We opened the first bottle tonight and were very disappointed. The wine did not improved after several hours in the decanter. I can only hope the bottles of 2007 I just purchased will be better. Perhaps it was just a bad bottle. I will leave the rest in the cave for at least another year and hope for the best. DL

Dark dense and rich with blackberry black currant and cherry flavors shaded with hints of spice and cedar as the flavors sink gently into a plush texture. 3151 cases made. (HS) Wine Press Northwest Another wonderful wine from one of America's great winemakers. This excellent effort will be appreciated for its toasty oak and vanilla aromas loaded with black fruit tar cherries chocolate leather and more. Drink now or hold dearly.Northwest Palate Dark garnet color. Cassis and ripe black fruit aromas with a faint herbal/mint note. Mouthfilling flavors of ripe black fruits cassis and chocolaty barrel toast balance a warm and tannic finish. Long fruit finish but cellar 3-5 additional complexity and integration. Highly recommended. The Wine Enthusiast.

Tiefe Cassis und Brombeeraromen, ein stattlicher aber immer noch eleganter Körper. Der Wein wird 20 Monate in französischer Eiche ausgebaut.
