Some black cherry, pepper, a little earthy on the nose. A little light on the palate at first but opens up with a little time to breathe. Some notes of cherry come through on the palate again, but this is not a fruit forward wine. There's just enough fruit that you can taste it coming through. Mainly earthy with some pepper. To put it in layman's terms, overall I'm rather impressed with this wine especially considering that I only paid $8 for it at a local liquor store. I just might have to go back and get a few more of these. So far I've only paired it with some crackers with bacon and cheddar cheese spread. Wasn't a horrible matchup, but it didn't exactly make me go "wow" either. I think this would be much better with pizza. Perhaps I'll give that a try next time. Can't give it a 5 glass rating though as it is certainly not the best malbec I've ever had. Not really a 4 glass rating either. If I could go 3.9 I would, but as it is it gets 3.5. Pretty good effort by the winemaker.
