What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Reviews

2008 The Wolftrap Syrah Mourvedre Viognier Franschock, South Africa (14.5%) - Nose: smell a slight must developing into a strong coffee flavor upon opening up, Taste: “Ahh, now that’s a Syrah!” - Lamarr, mild pepperiness, light to medium tannins, medium finish
Lamarr: A-, very low A- (nice Syrah, pleasure to drink, started out of the gate fast, yet began to lose its qualities after about 40 minutes, still good though)
Hector: B+, but an 89.9 (Fast out of the gates, turns espresso-y after an hour, still very good)
Alastor: A-

I consider this wine to be a work in progress. The nose is a wrestling match, with dark fruit pinned to the mat by strong earthy mineral aromas. The palate experience displays dark unripe smokey fruit that is chaperone by earth laden red clay stone, which decant subtle burst of cigar ashe notes ,that prolong the finish! Has potential, but full of risk, high risk can yield big rewards!
