Wolfgang Vineyards Gruner Veltliner Gru-Vee 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Vinted at our award-winning wine estates on the shores of the Neusiedlersee in the heart of Austria’s Burgenland province, Wolfgang Gruner-Veltliner (or “Gru-Vee”) Wine is a perfect example of Austria’s best-loved white wine varietal. Neither sweet nor exceedingly dry, Gruner Veltliner wines are by far Austria’s most popular whites; as a result, nearly all of the grape’s annual yield is consumed domestically in Austria. The shoreline of middle Europe’s only steppe lake provides an ideal climate for our vineyard’s cultivation of these powerful wines. Gruner Veltliner Known for an explosive, fresh fruit palate and a bright aroma and color, Gru-Vees are remarkably versatile, surpassing even Riesling (known for its flexibility) because of their ability to pair with “difficult” foods such as artichokes and asparagus. Gruner Veltliner wines are also among sommeliers’ favorites, frequently besting the world’s finest Pinots, White Burgundies, and Chardonnays in tasting competitions. Austrian custom dictates that Gru-Vees be enjoyed soon after vintage, but Wolfgang and other exceptional Gruner Veltliners may be aged up to 15 years to enhance the wine’s details and intensity. Tasting Notes Wolfgang is packed with the fresh, bright taste of young Gruner Veltliner grapes plucked young from their vines. The charming taste of this Gru-Vee is best enjoyed soon after its vintage to preserve its rich and intense flavor. Among its Gruner Veltliner peers, Wolfgang is characterized by a slightly dry, full body and a mildly spicy character. Like other Gru-Vees, Wolfgang is extremely versatile and pairs well with nearly all entrees. This wine is particularly outstanding served with grilled or roasted red meats, fish, and poultry. A really nice, complex and mineral nose. Good acidity - peaches and very mineral. Held up well over time, and was good even on the second night. Served with salmon and couscous.
