Wolf Blass Cabernet Sauvignon Coonawarra Gold Label 2012

Member Review by zufrieden:

Appearance of this wine is good and promises more but fails to deliver. The wine has light oak and stewed fruit on the nose and is a bit lacking in harmony or charm. On the palate, the wine is smooth - even creamy - with residual tannin but little fruit and just a bit too much oak. Pleasant enough but not quite up to expectation. Perhaps a work in progress as the Gold Label is apparently for experimentation. Try a more recent vintage. BTW my 3/5 rating implies a range of 84-86 points.

he Wolf Blass wine style has always been a unique and highly distinguishable one. The core focus is on blending; whether it is within or across varieties, regions and different vineyards. Opens with vanilla and chocolate mint, then more vanilla and all spice/baking spice, then strawberry, raspberry, and violets. Bit of vanilla, tobacco, and cedar and a long long finish of blackberry, currant, plum, and medium oak. Very soft tannins and big rounded mouthful. Delightful.
