Wine Group Lucky Duck Riesling

Member Review by ellefraise:

Upon first taste the acidic flavor overpowers any sweetness. After aeration the wine is only mildly sweet and has very strong citrus tones. This did not pair well with fish and scallops. The flavor actually overpowered the food rather than enhance sadly.

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

I'm still learning about wines and don't have a lot of experience, but I really enjoyed this wine. It is very refreshing and crisp. I don't know enough about Reislings to know if this one has all the necessary characteristics, but I like it a lot. I've had it with chicken, with seafood and by itself. It has become one of my favorites.

Any Riesling from Germany at less than $4 a bottle... well, one shouldn't expect fireworks. And though this Riesling is hardly excellent, still, it does have a Riesling character. There was a slight metallic taste at first sip, though one appeared to become inured to it... anyhow, it seemed less noticeable after a few more sips. Medium-sweet with some good Riesling fragrance. I will say it is on a par with a number of Liebfraumilches and Black Cats I have had, and for considerably less money. Certainly, worth the price, though one might still feel it worthwhile to spend something more and get a more refined Riesling. Nevertheless, it's a good accompaniment to Long John Silvers, or General Tso's Chicken, or indeed, nice grilled frankfurters with sauerkraut...

I love this Riesling a lot. It's smooth, not too oaky. I'm not a wine connoisseur, but I know what I like. It is a sweeter wine, but not too sweet.
