Windsor Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

The complex aromatics of this wine offer dark plum and black fruit nicely enveloped by brown baking spice, espresso notes and hints of toasted vanilla. The mouth is lush and deep as the black fruit profile so evident in the aromatics fills the palate along with flavors of cherry and boysenberry. The structure of this wine carries the rich fruit profile with firm tannins and balancing acidity.

Tasting Notes:

Dark fruit characteristics dominate the aromatics of this 2008 vintage, closely followed by scents of dark chocolate espresso and toasted vanilla. Lush and full flavored with black cherry, blackberry, cocoa and toasted coconut, this powerful Cab presents firm tannins, and good acidity to balance a rich fruit profile. Named for pioneer Cyrus Alexander, this AVA is located at the northern end of Sonoma County and runs 22 miles long, varying in width from two to seven miles. The area’s rugged terrain is recognized as one of the New World’s premier growing regions for Bordeaux varietals. The warmer inland temperatures of this mountainous region are cooled at night by the maritime air that flows from the coast up the Russian River, which winds from the north to the south of Alexander Valley. This daily convergence of temperatures creates a myriad of varying microclimates ideal for this variety, as world-class Cabernet Sauvignon grapes thrive along the rolling hillsides and all the way up the mountain ridges. Soils are shallow and rocky, adding impressive depth and concentration to the character of this variety.
