Wild Hog Porter Bass Zinfandel California 2005

Member Review by rwb5150:

The Wild Hog Vineyard is a truly unique winery located far off the beaten, wine-country, path on the Sonoma Coast. Owners Daniel and Marion Schoenfeld have been organically growing a wide range of grape varietals, including Zinfnadel, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Petite Syrah, and Carignane, under the Wild Hog Label in the rugged coastal hills since 1990. The Porter-Bass Zinfandel is richly dark, almost opaque at the center and garnet around the edges. It has powerful fruit-forward nose composed of ripe black cherry and strawberry, black pepper, and clean minerality, all rounded out by a vanilla cherry-cola finish. It tastes even softer than its appearance in the glass and aromas lead you to expect. Smooth, bold, and juicy, the moderately high alcohol content (14.5%) does not ride up into the nose, a winning attribute of good Zinfandels. Amazing quality! It is a big, lush wine that delivers open layers in perfect balance, from the candied black-cherry body to a long spicy-vanilla finish. my blog: http://corksandcaftans.wordpress.com/category/corks/

Wild Hog Vineyard is a small family owned and operated winery and vineyard in the hills between Cazadero and Fort Ross on the Sonoma Coast. The owners, Daniel and Marion Schoenfeld, have transformed the rugged mountain property into a beautiful lush garden resplendent with vineyard, orchard, vegetable beds, and fragrant flowers. We have been making wine since 1977 and opened the winery in 1990. The wine making practices follow the traditional ways. The highest quality grapes are used, the wine is aged in small oak barrels, and the complete wine making process is carefully tended by hand from the moment the grapes arrive at the winery until they leave as bottled wine. Wild Hog Vineyard believes that one of life's finest pleasures is sharing a delicious meal and fine wine with good friends. We at Wild Hog invite you to become part of that enjoyment. Read less

An elegant finish to a powerful zin. Goes extremely well with lamb and rare duck breast.
