Wild Duck Creek Shiraz Heathcote Springflat 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Rich in color and texture, with black pepper scents wafting through a plush core of raspberry, cherry and spice aromas and flavors, echoing beautifully on the polished finish. Drink now through 2008

Residing to the north of the Great Dividing Range in Central Victoria, the region is at elevations between 160m and 380m. For the most part, the soil under vine is of the pre-Cambrian era - red and deep with excellent water holding capacity, although the regions most sort-after and expensive wines come from the predominately clay with granite and quartz inclusions of the Southern and Central sub-regions. The region’s rainfall is evenly distributed between the seasons and the temperature range is defined as temperate, with cooling winds emanating from the south. It is our belief that the Heathcote Wine Region will eventually be divided up into three sub-regions (Northern, Central and Southern) as there is a distinct difference in the flavour and structure of the wines coming from these individual areas. These differences are due to the influences of the local ‘terroir’. Read less

My daughters friend brought this wine to Thanksgiving dinner. This is a fine wine that leaves me wanting to find more wines from small Australian wineries. Love the fruit tones and color.

Broodingly backward, young, and tight is the 2001 Shiraz Springflat. Its opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by copious aromas of new oak, black currants, cherries, and a hint of underbrush as well as mint in the background. Full-bodied and chewy... Robert Parker. A Syrah wine from Victoria in Australia. 2001 Wild Duck Creek Shiraz Springflat 750ml
