Wiemer Riesling Dry Finger Lake New York 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"Hints of lime and orange blossom on the nose set the stage for a succulent palate of apricot and grapefruit. Our trademark minerality creates a beautiful texture that carries into a long, lingering finish." Winemaker's notes "The label says “Dry Riesling,” but in fact it’s slightly sweet, like an old-school German kabinett riesling from the days before global warming. Nonetheless, it’s superb, with deep, three-dimensional flavors, tangy and lightly fruity." New York Times 8/16/12

Riesling-obsessed connoisseurs know how important Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard's pioneering work is to wine. Hermann, born in Germany with an extensive wine family background, discovered the Finger Lakes in the 1960's, and its cool climate and gravelly soil reminded him of the Mosel Valley. Realizing the untapped potential of the Finger Lakes region, he started to grow classic European vines along selected sites on one of the most prominent properties in the Finger Lakes. Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard estate grown wines are established from traditions of excellence and have a reputation for being exceptionally lush, crisp and well balanced. Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is founded on the philosophy of quality and hand crafted wines. Located on the shores of Seneca Lake, the well drained sloping shalestone bedrock and Honeoye silt loam soil lend itself to the production of what critics consider to be some of the best grown Rieslings in America. Floral aromas abound intermingled with hints of tropical fruits. The entry is loaded with apples and pears; mid-palate opens up with floral hints. The finish is all citrus: clementines Valencia oranges grapefruit and tangerines. A pleasant memory of the wine lingers. Another awesome offer from HJW.

A dry Riesling with a crisp minerality and hints of lime and delicate citrus on the nose. Nicely balanced with a touch of honeyed grapefruit on the palate with a clean finish. - Winery

A tremendous performance, this riesling exhibits a tension between the round, warm peach accents and a darker herbal presence. While the fruit is exuberant, conveyed by a turbinado sugar sweetness, somehow a fierce minerality reins it in. The wine becomes elegant, with a heady, peach-inflected finish that lasts far beyond the sweetness.

Ripe, with creamed Jonagold apple, dried quince and anise flavors laced with heather and orange blossom notes. Displays excellent range and a juicy feel. A slightly forward style overall. Drink now through 2015.

Fresh and engaging, with apple, pine, fennel and green melon notes leading to a crunchy, lively edge on the finish. Drink now through 2014.
