Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2008
Wine Enthusiast Review Rated 90 Winemaker Simon Waghorn has been able to maintain this brand's quality even as production has ramped up to 100,000 cases, a remarkable feat. The 2008 features ripe, tropical fruit aromas of guava and pineapple that morph easily into flavors of nectarine and fig; expect some herbal notes to emerge by the time it reaches consumers. It's plump in the mouth, yet finishes with a mouthwatering, clean, crisp Finish. Wine Tasting Notes Light straw, with lemon-lime tones. Vibrant currant-leaf and gooseberry aromas, some pungent herbaceous nuances, and a hint of ripe citrus. A full flavored medium bodied wine, with an abundance of currant and gooseberry flavors, and a clean, lingering finish.
Whitehaven Wine Company was established in 1994 by majority shareholders, Greg and Sue White, and winemaker, Simon Waghorn. For Greg and Sue, the move to Marlborough was a classic lifestyle change after careers spent in financial markets and marketing. For Simon, the motivation was the pursuit of quality winemaking within a company structure where he could share in the success of his efforts.
Flinty, chalky and tropical on the nose. Loads of grapefruit on the palate with lots of acidity. Good but simple. Left a pleasant aftertaste but not one that I enjoyed with my meal. A summertime, afternoon sipper. Good but not great.
Very light yellow straw in the glass. The nose is fresh as spring with grapefruit, honeysuckle, chalk dust and wet slate. The palate is light and elegant showing lemon curd, grapefruit, sour apple and almonds. The finish is refreshing. Much better than last time I tried it. Now, I mean this in the best way possible, you could carbonate this stuff, sell it as a (unsweetened) soft drink and make a fortune.
Flinty, chalky and tropical on the nose. Loads of grapefruit on the palate with rich, zingy acidity. Good but simple. Left a clean, pleasant aftertaste. A summertime, afternoon sipper.
very sour apple and grapefruit and mineral with acid on palatte. long crisp finish. Really Good! Enjoyed by itself at iPic theatre while watching Expendables 2. lol.
My wife and I were served this wine at a local Italian restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised and asked the waiter for the label. I enjoyed the crispness and pleasant fruitiness.
I love this Sauvignon Blanc. Not too much grapefruit. Nice and dry. Went very well with my grilled Ahi tuna with fresh peach zesty sauce. Even my husband said it went well with his cioppino despite the rich tomato sauce. We had this with our meal at Modi's in Breckenridge, Colorado. A great accompaniment to a fantastic meal.
Strong nose, nice body, citrus, very flavorfull

A lovely expression of Sauvignon Blanc, this bottling features the classic notes of gooseberry and cut grass on the nose but in a cool, ripe register that also hints at white cranberries with crisp citrus notes. In the mouth this is a textbook Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, zippy with lovely citrus flavors supported by bright acidity in a medium-bodied style, finishing dry with a subtle mineral note that makes this is a natural match for lighter summer fare.
