Whitehall Lane Tre Leoni Red Blend Napa Valley 2012

External Review by WineExpress.com:

In 1993, the Leonardini Family of San Francisco took control of the Whitehall Lane estate. They updated the winemaking, instituted a new barrel-aging program and continued sourcing the finest vineyards. They started with one vineyard and now own seven prime vineyards that are the cornerstone of their estate. It's no wonder this winery in Napa Valley's historic Rutherford appellation has also been voted Winery of the Year from the Quarterly Review of Wines and Wine and Spirits Magazine. This wine is a departure from their usual varietal bottlings. Tre Leoni refers to the three generations of the Leonardinin family but it could also refer to the three grapes in this supple red blend. It's about one third each Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah; three Napa Valley lions if ever there were. Sourced primarily from their estate vineyards and each vinified separately the wine was aged in two thirds French and one third American oak barrels for 20 months, creating a supple, rich, mouthfilling wine. It shows ripe black cherry, black currant and chocolate notes in a fruit-forward style that's all Napa Valley. A super value!
