Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Silver Anniversary Reserve 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

A complex and layered expression of California Cabernet. The wine has a dark garnet color and is bursting with fruit even as it is poured. On the palate, it has an extraordinarily rich attack, a satin texture and an exuberant expression of fruit on the mid-palate that comes from picking grapes at the peak of their ripeness. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2032. 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol 14.1%.

We pride ourselves on making one varietal that is food-friendly and deliciously drinkable upon release. Our story begins in the early 1970’s when Ray Duncan befriended winegrower Justin Meyer. The two formed a partnership and co-founded Silver Oak Cellars in 1972 with the bold vision of producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, under the leadership of Ray’s sons David and Tim and Director of Winemaking Daniel Baron, we produce two wines: our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak’s unwavering focus on making exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon enables us to continually improve and refine our craft. Each of our two estates – one in Napa Valley and the other in Alexander Valley – is dedicated to producing a single wine. These two Cabernet Sauvignons consistently reflect the very best of their appellations. Our estate vineyards are ideally situated to provide optimal growing conditions for our Cabernet Sauvignon. We also work closely with top independent growers throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys to ensure a reliable source of excellent fruit. We complement this fruit with grapes from top independent growers throughout both appellations, giving our winemaking team the flexibility they need to realize the full potential of each Silver Oak vintage. Tasting Room Tasting rooms at both of our estates are open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.  We are closed  some holidays. Read less

Garnet in color with sweet spice notes on the nose backed by subtle red cherry and eucalyptus - nuanced layered complex and inviting. On the palate it s silky and juicy in texture with mild smooth tannins on the finish. Notes of mocha coffee and damson plum round out the spice nuances. Drinking beautifully now and shows the foundation to age gracefully over the next 10 years. Devon Magee.

Twomey from Silver Oak Cellars produces Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc. The Merlot is sourced from Napa Valley, and is aged in a mix of new and used french oak. The wine is focused and fresh, with plumpy Merlot character and a very lush texture

Its easy to see why Silver Oak remains so popular with the restaurant crowd. Its made in a more restrained style than many other Napa Cabs. Theres plenty of berry and currant fruit as well as oak, but its accompanied by tobacco and herbs that give the wine an earthiness. What the wine lacks in dazzle it more than makes up for in elegance and subtlety. Should develop well for at least a decade. - S.H. - Wine Enthusiast Magazine 91 PointsA graceful, understated style, offering a delicate mix of dill, plum, black cherry, anise and cedar, ending on an elegant note. Drink now through 2022. JL - Wine Spectator Magazine 88 Points

This 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a complex and layered expression of California Cabernet. The wine has a dark garnet color and is bursting with fruit even as it is poured. It has a nose of cassis, violets, licorice, allspice and roasting coffee. On the palate, it has an extraordinarily rich attack, a satin texture and an exuberant expression of fruit on the mid-palate that comes from picking grapes at the peak of their ripeness. The wine finishes with notions of savory umami, and fruit with a medium tannic grip. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2032.

Silver Oak is celebrating 40 years, and the 2008 Alexander Valley Cabernet speaks volumes about how they've been successful for so many years. Bold, lush fruit character, plenty of charred oak and very pleasant structure.
