Twomey from Silver Oak Cellars produces Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc. The Merlot is sourced from Napa Valley, and is aged in a mix of new and used french oak. The wine is focused and fresh, with plumpy Merlot character and a very lush texture

It's easy to see why Silver Oak remains so popular with the restaurant crowd. It's made in a more restrained style than many other Napa Cabs. There's plenty of berry and currant fruit as well as oak, but it's accompanied by tobacco and herbs that give the wine an earthiness. What the wine lacks in dazzle it more than makes up for in elegance and subtlety. Should develop well for at least a decade. - S.H. A graceful, understated style, offering a delicate mix of dill, plum, black cherry, anise and cedar, ending on an elegant note. Drink now through 2022. -JL

This 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a complex and layered expression of California Cabernet. The wine has a dark garnet color and is bursting with fruit even as it is poured. It has a nose of cassis, violets, licorice, allspice and roasting coffee. On the palate, it has an extraordinarily rich attack, a satin texture and an exuberant expression of fruit on the mid-palate that comes from picking grapes at the peak of their ripeness. The wine finishes with notions of savory umami, and fruit with a medium tannic grip. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2032.

Garnet in color with sweet spice notes on the nose backed by subtle red cherry and eucalyptus - nuanced layered complex and inviting. On the palate it s silky and juicy in texture with mild smooth tannins on the finish. Notes of mocha coffee and damson plum round out the spice nuances. Drinking beautifully now and shows the foundation to age gracefully over the next 10 years. Devon Magee.

Silver Oak is celebrating 40 years, and the 2008 Alexander Valley Cabernet speaks volumes about how they've been successful for so many years. Bold, lush fruit character, plenty of charred oak and very pleasant structure.
