Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Silver Anniversary Reserve 2001
The experience didn't start out so well when the cork broke in half and got pushed into the wine. So I panicked but filtered it thanks to my husband. I heard that these Silver Oak age really well but I must say I was disappointed. Nice aromas of black preserved fruits like plum and cassis, a hint of cedar and a little bit of mocha and suede as the evening proceeded. But the flavors were not transferred to the palate at all! Was quite one dimensional, broad and lacking character. The mouthfeel was nice and smooth, as was the finish. The tannins were too soft for my liking and couldn't hold up to the cheese we ate at the end of the meal. Surely a great aged wine but not great for my tastes! Could have just been a bad bottle, or suffered poor transportation from CA to Italy in a suitcase in mid summer 2 years ago!
A lovely cab that restores some faith in Cal Cabs. Made with real finesse, so it doesn't knock you over the head. Deep, dark garnet in color, with cassis, berry, and cedar aromas. On the palate this wine was surprisingly silky and easy to drink, with fully integrated tannins and a smooth and long finish of fruit and spice. Drinking really well now, so those lucky to have a bottle or two can probably open it at the holidays if they want!
Great color. Leather, smoke and chocolate. Great balance with huge tannins. Dark chocolate and dark cherry with long finish. Should probably have aged a bit longer.
Excellent CA cab. Silver Oak's Alexander Valley wines are 100% Cab Sauvignon which is not the case with their Napa blend. This makes the wine a bit more focused in the mouth. Although there is plenty of fruit and oak, neither are overbearing.
Opened a bottle of Silver Oak Napa 2001 and Alexander 2001 with a prime rib Christmas dinner. The Napa was certainly a more balanced wine with a full on fruit forward bouquet, but slightly closed pallet leaving sharper than expected tannins. Although this is a great wine, I wonder if the 01 is a bit closed at the moment. I ask because I had a bottle of 02 Napa when doing a "practice" rib dinner two weeks earlier. The '02 was unabashedly fruit forward on the nose and the tongue and in my view a much better wine
Very enjoyable. Perfectly made Cabernet from Cali. Well integrated flavors of cherrys & sweet red fruits. This wine is made in a traditional way, non-fruit bomb. Nice to see traditional wine comming from Cali.
Love it; I think this is a better vintage than the 2002.

Aromas of dill macaroon and coconut fold in nicely with a rich band of currant plum and black cherry fruit. Excellent structure depth and concentration ending with firm chewy tannins.... Wine Spectator.
The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley (by the way all of the Alexander Valley offerings are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a big sweet oaky nose and a seductive panoply of spices from cedarwood to plum pudding and fruitcake notes. It is a sexy sensual broad flavorful Cabernet lacking serious depth but offering attractive fruit plenty of ripeness and a big wallop of American oak. Drink it over the next decade. ...Exotic American oak tones of bourbon coconut and cocoa butter dominate the nose. Then fat lush suave and dry with no excess weight. Impressive more for its mid-palate texture than its fruit. Most complex today on the back end which features broad fine tannins and notes of cherry candied raspberry milk chocolate espresso and bourbon. A very good vintage for this bottling. 92 Points Robert Parker The Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is more limited in availability than the Alexander Valley, but there are now close to 33,000 cases being produced. The 2001 (31,430 cases of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot) offers a big, smoky, herb, black currant, tobacco, spice box, and barbecue spice-scented bouquet, and broad, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, sweet, jammy flavors with plenty of sexy, toasty American oak in the background
