Wente Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Louis Mel Livermore Valley 2012

Member Review by Kovas 50 States Of Wine:

Star fruit, melon, and citrus aromas; floral, melon, citrus, touch of honey flavors; nice acidity, well-balanced, crisp finish. Music pairing suggestion for this wine was Brown Bird, but I'd pair this Sauvignon Blanc with Split Enz.

This varietally correct Sauvignon Blanc is clean, crisp and refreshing, with plenty of honey, pineapple and green apple, and yet has some meat on it's bones, with a rich mouthfeel that belies it's all stainless-steel againg.

This Sauvignon Blanc has a beautiful straw color and aromas of guava, melon, gooseberry, citrus and pineapple. With crisp acidity and flavors of honeydew melon and pineapple, this wine delivers a creamy, refreshing finish.

Wente's estate vineyards in the Livermore Valley are a prime location for Sauvignon Blanc. Warm temperatures are balanced by the cooling breezes off of the San Francisco Bay. Louis Mel came to California from France in the 1800's with vine cuttings from the famed Chateau D'Yquem in Bordeaux. The Wente's acquired the Mel estate in the 1930's and the sustainably grown vines on the estate today are descendants of those original cuttings. The 2010 named for Mon. Mel scored 90 points in the Wine Enthusiast Magazine. This 2010 is just as lush and delicious.
