Add your reviewI'll be the first to admit that when it comes to white wines, I am an absolute dilettante. But this wine was everything I was looking for in a chardonnay and more: good tartness (pineapple, pears, hint of lemon) balanced by fruity sweetness (apple, quince, honeydew melon) and a good bit of butteriness, but not overly so. The addition of the gewurtz was brilliant. This was a very good tasting wine and a pleasure to drink. Medium to full bodied, with a beautifully long spicy/fruity finish.
Peach flavors and crisp green apple notes. Medium level of oak, with a great oily character. Spicy lemony finish which was unexpected, but very nice. Good with food.
Rating: 91/100. Very nice bouquet of tropical fruits that resemble sweet scents of Starbursts candy rather than the real thing. Pale yellow color fades to clear at rim. Great texture to this wine accentuates flavors of cantaloupe, honey, and sweet apple; perhaps a slight hint of tobacco on the back of the palate. Light oaking provides great balance to all the flavors present. This wine is a pleasure to drink.

Arroyo Seco is widely regarded as one of the best places in California to grow Chardonnay. Riva Ranch is the name of the Wente family’s vineyard in Arroyo Seco, where we have been growing Chardonnay since the 1960’s. Wente Vineyards was the first California winery to produce a wine labeled as Chardonnay in 1936. Today, many of the great Chardonnay vineyards in California are planted with the Wente Clone. 92% of this wine was barrel fermented, while the balance was fermented in stainless steel. After primary fermentation, the wine was allowed to naturally undergo malolactic fermentation and then aged sur lie for 8 months in new American oak barrels. The wine shows a luscious mouthfeel with flavors of pear, vanilla and butterscotch and a long, smooth finish.
