User Reviews for Weingut Wittmann Westhofener Morstein Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewachs

Winemaker's Notes:

The Westhofener Morstein vineyard is one of the top three Grosses Gewächs (“Great Growths,” an equivalent term of quality to Burgundy’s Grand Crus). The vineyard soils are clay with chalky loam, weathered limestone and loess. All three of the Grosses Gewächs vineyards produce wines with exceptional concentration, minerality, acidity, balance and age worthiness. If any wines are, these fine Riesling wines are true “vins de garde,” or what the French call wines meant to age. There is intensive vineyard care during the year, low yields and rigorous hand selection of the grapes. The wines ferment in traditional wood vats or stainless steel tank. The slow fermentations sometimes continue well into the following year. Food Match: white meats, veal, sushi, shrimp, shellfish, scallops, salmon, pork, hard cheeses, fish, chicken.
