Winemaker's Notes:

Stadt Krems is a rejuvenated estate, which has really come into its own in the last couple of years. In 2006 Stadt Krems produced perhaps the most deliciously accessible Rieslings in this vintage, and the 2007s show a further leap in quality. Riesling Kögl, from the schist terroir just above the winery is exceptional in 2007 There was need of renovation of both vineyards and cellar when Fritz Miesbauer joined in 2003, and the next stage of development - a new construction to extend winemaking, office and tasting facilities is now complete. Thirty five hectares in the classic heart of the Kremstal are farmed, almost exclusively with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. At this end of the Kremstal, almost bordering Wachau, there is a high proportion of conglomerate rock, lending real minerality to the wines. This perhaps makes for slightly tighter wines, but the ripeness and texture lurks just below the surface.
