Drink in 2008? Answer: probably should have - although one might have expected an additional year or two beyond with prudent cellaring. This is a very wild white fruit wine fairly typical of the region and grape variety. Wonderful color with petroleum overtones in the predominant scent. More petrol on entry with a distinct impression of "drink me now"...

Located in the prestigious Kamptal-Donau (Danube) wine region of Austria, Rabl winery enjoys a wine growing tradition which goes back to 1828 and which is now under the careful eye of Rudolf Rabl Jr. The estate comprises 50 hectares around the hills of Langenlois. The vines are strictly pruned and yields are kept low to obtain good extract in the grapes which are harvested by hand. Temperature controlled fermentation and maturation takes place in stainless steel or in wooden barrels in a cellar that is located 7 meters underground. Kamptal Donau is the best area for the production of fine Gruner Veltiner wines, the signature white grape for Austria. Vintage: 2009 Grape: 100% Gruner Veltliner Vinification: The grapes were harvested and selected yeasts were added to start the fermentation which took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for 6 months in tank. Notes: A fine, fresh bouquet with lemon, citrus and mineral tones on the palate through to a balanced and elegant finish.
