Slaty character typical for the vineyard. Its wines were served on the Zeppelin in the '20s and '30s. Very refreshing Riesling, displaying rich fruit of apple and lemon with a stylish and lengthy finish. A great sipping or aperitif wine, or with light dishes like seafood or poultry.
This famous label commemorates the era of the Zeppelin, when first class passengers were poured Riesling from the small village of Mulheim. Today, Mulheim resident Dirk Richter produces this terrific value-priced white, slightly sweet with intense white peach and citrus flavors and a crisp, refreshing finish.
The quality of Richter's wine has been "sky high" since the '20s, when Rieslings from the estate were featured on the Graf Zeppelin. This wine was bottled as a tribute to those glory days - fruity, spicy, with brilliant pear, citrus and apple flavors that finish with crisp, tasty acidity.
A naturally light, racy Kabinet finished in a drier style, highlighting fruit notes and a minerally quality. Enjoy this wine with Mandarin chicken and pork-fried rice.
At only 7.5% alcohol, the Richter 2009 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spatlese manages to handle 70 grams of residual sugar with remarkable aplomb thanks to brash acidity and presumptive underlying extract. Bright pineapple, grapefruit, and lemon inform the nose as well as a vigorously refreshing, feather-light palate, finishing with satisfying persistence and the promise of a good two decades of high performance. While yields were down significantly in Muhlheim and Brauneberg - particularly due to peronospora - and sorting almost universally required, Dirk Richter reports that his overall 2009 crop was above- average volume, though he acknowledges that due to the need for relatively intensive spraying against fungal pests, both its ripening and the evolution of the resulting wines were retarded. Kabinetts were not picked until the last days of October; acid levels of most wines are well above vintage average; there was little Auslese; and some wines (Kabinetts, as it happens!) had not yet bottled when I visited in September. Richer - whose Rieslings from top sites continue to be bargain-priced - has just taken over a section of Erdener Treppchen that is in the family of his cellarmaster, who has no heirs. While there were still stocks of some 2008 vintage Rieslings available when I visited in September, the 2009 Richter Pinot Blanc had already been sold out without remainder, so I did not get chance to taste that of-late often promising bottling.
Wines from this vineyard were served on the zeppelin airships of yesteryear as depicted on the label. Light and juicy, this Riesling displays ripe apple and sweet lemon and finishes with a note of slate that this vineyard is known for.
The flavors of this wine will make you think of crunching into a crisp Granny Smith apple. A little sweetness followed by tart acidity provides a nice fruity balance. Finishing with a light minerality, this wine is a great everyday sipper to pair with light snacks and seafood.
