Peach, apple, honeysuckle, and heliotrope scent the Richter 2009 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett, which demonstrates surprising brightness and cut (traceable to high acidity) for the vintage. Lip-smacking salinity and underlying wet stone inform the juicy and persistently perfumed finish of this delicate and refreshing Kabinett that will merit following for at least 15 years. Incidentally, as part of the current Flurbereinigung of Wehlener Sonnenuhr, these vines are being ripped out and Richterrsquo;s new acreage will be planted with two Geisenheim clones.
Doctor Richter has fashioned an impressive line-up of 2001s, harnassing the vintagersquo;s ripeness while maintaining seamless balance. White peaches, spices, stones, and minerals can be found in the aromatics of the 2001 Riesling Kabinett Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Medium-bodied and satin-textured, it regales the palate with thick layers of apples, pears, and assortic exotic fruits. An extravagant wine, it is boisterous and fleshy. Projected maturity: Nowndash;2008.
Naturally light and silky, featuring fine fruit flavor with a milder acidic balance.
Richter acquired their first parcel of land in the Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard in 1972. The 1997 Kabinett is a very intense wine with a full nose possessing bracing acidity and citrus notes and a long, minerally finish. This is perfect sipping wine that also will go well with garden salads.
