Food Pairings for Weingut Günther Steinmetz Mülheimer Sonnenlay Riesling Feinherb
That animal nose. How wonderfully dirty it is. Why do I come here and why do I hang around? Stefan Steinmetz's wines are so silent and yet have so much to say. The Mülheimer Sonnenlay Feinherb 2007 is "only" a QbA (good for us, because it means a lower price level) and yet the wine is so expressive of the grape variety and the soil it's been grown in. There is still a light spritz in it and tiny bubble cling to the inside of the glass, but the earthiness is already so pronounced that the wine already carries the patina of a mature Riesling. Pale lemon color. Clean nose with a medium(+) intensity of earthy aromas, minerality, smoke, lemon and grapefruit. Off-dry, medium(+) acidity, medium(-) alcohol, medium body. Medium(+) intensity of grapefruit marmelade, oear, smoke, wet stone and a flowery note towards the end. Medium(+) length.
