Food Pairings for Wattle Creek Syrah Blend Yorkville Highlands the Triple Play
The wine is a pleasant ruby color in the glass, and the nose exhibits notes of ripe red fruit, spicy pepper and a hint of mint over some very subtle oak. The taste is somewhat fruit forward, with a bit of blackberry jam on the outset, which transitions to some fresh herbs and mint midpalate. The tannins are very well structured, leading to a firm, dry finish that would complement a wide variety of grilled meats and savory dishes. External Reviews for Wattle Creek Syrah Blend Yorkville Highlands the Triple Play
Winemaker's Notes: This Rhone blend presents terrific vibrant purple and red hues. The 2004 Triple Play shows aromas of black current and a sweet hint of raspberry combined with tarry molasses, anise and spicey oak. Blackberry flavors dominate with notes of smokey terroir, toasted oak and a black pepper nuance. This is a rich, well profiled and structured wine and will pair beautifully with a dry aged rib eye steak grilled to perfection and topped with gorgonzola! Blend: 93% Syrah, 4% Petite Sirah, 3% Viognier

When the owners of Wattle Creek winery in Alexander Valley wanted to expand their vineyard holdings they went directly north to the Yorkville Highlands in Mendocino. Their 125-acre vineyard has varied elevation with the very top planted to the Syrah and Petit Sirah that go into this lush red wine. It’s above the fog line so the vineyard gets brilliant sun light for ripening, but the high altitude and cooling breezes slow things down, bringing depth and complexity. A splash of Viognier is added for freshness in this unique blend. The make up is 93% Syrah, 4% Petite Sirah, 3% Viognier. This is a Rhone style blend that shows ripe black cherry, black pepper, licorice and cassis. On Sale for a limited time!
