Waterbrook Rose Sangiovese 2015

Editorial Review by Snooth Editorial:

Edgy and rough on the nose with touches of watermelon and a bit of citric acid. Light bodied in the mouth with more melon and citrus, quite round but focussed towards the front of the mouth with less acidity than perhaps would be welcome in this wine.

Sweet and a little cooked on the nose with aromas of fruit salad and maraschino cherries. This is round and weighty in the mouth, a bit thick and heavy though with tons of acid. The flavors are pleasant if a little dull, with a bit of a cooked/candied quality to the herb framed cherry fruit. There’s just a suggestion of candy watermelon on the finish making this easy to drink if rather ordinary. 83pts

Fruity on the nose with notes of candied watermelon and raspberry spiced up with hint of cinnamon, stone, and a touch of crushed watermelon seed. On entry this shows some assertive acidity, really lively in the mouth with a little sweetness helping to balance it out on the vividly wild cherry flavored midpalate. This is zesty and intense with tons of fruit showing a flash of creamy strawberry on the finish before the acid kicks back in and lends some savory mineral accents to the long finish. OK, this is not what many people consider a serious rose but boy is this delicious. This would be killer with lightly spicy food. Absolutely delicious. 90pts

Judging by the color you’d be expecting more sweetness, but Waterbrook have done a great job with balancing the fruit and acidity with this Sangiovese rose, and sugar hardly has a say in the matter…which is nice! Soft and delicate, with the expected strawberry and raspberry, but not as in-your-face as we’ve come to expect from U.S.A “pink wines”. There’s also some peach in there, but it’s hiding behind the pink grapefruit. Mineral-driven from start to finish, and speaking of the finish, it’s bright, refreshing and leaves you craving another sip. This has “patio wine” written all over it!

There is absolutely nothing special about this wine. It's not bad but better wines can be had at this price.

This reminded me of a Pinot Grio instead of the fruity rose my guests were hoping for.

I was told by a wine distributor that this wine, regardless of vintage, was the best red wine value around. I think they were right. I like this wine, and for the price you cannot beat it.

We received this wine as a holiday gift. It was superb. Our only disappointment was that we cannot locate locally.

A crisp wine with rose bud and watermelon aromatics. This dry Rose has bright flavors of strawberry, melon with balanced acidity and lingering raspberry notes on the finish.
