Waterbrook Merlot Reserve 2014

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Sweet vanilla, nutmeg and allspice notes grace the nose along with a nice base of blackberry and blueberry fruit. Medium bodied and nicely focused in the mouth with firm acids and polished tannins supporting blueberry and mocha flavors on the palate. This is clear and fresh with nice tension right through the rather long finish which shows nicely integrated blueberry and plum fruit and wood flavors. Not terribly complex but certainly delicious. 88pts

Blackberries, chocolate, spice, anise on the nose follow well to the palate. Mellowed tannins and acidity lead to a well heeled aftertaste. Drink now - 89 points - Paul

Wonderfully developed cherry, smoke and leather aromas swirl in the glass. Juicy, bright cherries welcome you to the well-rounded palate. Layered notes of rich fruit, cocoa powder and leather lead to balanced tannins and lingering oak on the finish.

WS 92pts. - #46 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2010 - Winemaker Notes - Seductive aromas of brandied black cherries, mint, tar and charcoal swirl on the nose. A merriment of smoky and dusty notes welcome you to the palate. Black walnut notes with a hint of molasses leads to lingering oak on the finish.
