What to Expect

Cabenet Sauvignon: Originally of French origins, this versatile grape produces exceptional wines around the globe. It's usually medium to full bodied with a fine structure that supports black and red fruit flavors with typical notes of olive, chili and herbs that add complexity.

Winemakers Notes

FROM THE WINEMAKER: Cape spice blends with Old world seductive charm in a full bodied wine celebrating the role played by women in today's vibrant South African wine industry. Multiple layers of voluptuous black berry fruit merge with enticing hazlenut aromas and delicious mocha flavors to create a mouth-watering wine drinking experience.

Reviews

35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 32% Pinotage: Each component of this Cape blend offers its own qualities. This vintage shows an explosion of fruit on the nose which is largely attributable to the Pinotage component. The Pinotage is soft and sweet while the Merlot offers a subtle spiciness. The Cabernet Sauvignon is the backbone of the blend. Ripe tannins with an innate softness that will mature with cellaring. Full on the palate with a sweetness on the finish. This blend brings the best of Pinotage to the classic French varieties.

Rating: 89/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 119, March/April 2005 ($29) Dark red. Darker aromas of black raspberry, plum, redcurrant and smoky oak, lifted by a whiff of rose petal. Sweet and pliant, but with a bit less fruit intensity, inner-mouth perfume and depth than the 2001. Cherry and berry flavors complicated by licorice and flowers. Finishes with reasonably sweet tannins and firm structure. Highly successful for the year.
