Warwick wine estate was known as the farm ‘Good Success’ from 1791 until 1902. After the Anglo Boer war, Colonel Alexander Gordon from Warwickshire regiment bought the farm and renamed it ‘Warwick’ as a tribute to his regiment. In 1964 the farm was purchased by Stan & Norma Ratcliffe, at the time there was not a single vine on the farm. However, Stan and Norma Ratcliffe soon realized the potential of the terroir and began planting Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines gave high quality grapes, which were soon in demand from wholesalers and other wineries. Norma became more and more interested in the making of wine and began to study the subject. Soon a cellar was in place and in 1984 the first Warwick vintage was released (a Cabernet Sauvignon). It seemed Norma had the talent for making great wines and production soon increased. The Trilogy, since 1986, a Bordeaux style blend soon became one of the flagships of the South African Wine Industry. The farm today is still very much a family affair. In 2001, Mike Ratcliffe, Stan and Norma’s son assumed the role of Managing Director. He graduated from Adelaide University with a wine marketing degree. Read less

I really liked this wine. The red fruits pop at the front, not overly fruity, but I got more raspberries then plum. The middle is characterized with more earthiness and leather, followed with ample spice, more peppery and finishes with mild tanins. The wine offers nice complexity, is fruity and earthy with neither one being overwhelming. The finish is tannic with the mouth being covered in dryness, but this departs quickly and Im left with the reminder of the luscious berries, making it feel light and wet.

This is a classic red blend, with its lovely nose of pepper, spice and dark berry, and its clean, integrated spice and fruit character. Restrained but flavorful, itrsquo;s a great go-to red for any meal.

A sleek, polished style, with enticing red plum, currant, fig and mocha notes that glide over supple tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinotage and Syrah. Drink now through 2010.

Weingut: Warwick EstateLand: SüdafrikaRegion: StellenboschRebsorten: 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 21% Pinotage, 13% ShirazInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 14,5 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 5,75 g/lRestsüße: 2,25 g/lEmpfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16 - 18 °CFassreife: in Barriques gereift (24 Monate)Auszeichnungen des Warwick Estate Three Cape Ladies 2004:4 Platter Stars Weißwein > Südafrika > Stellenbosch

Deep red-ruby. Blackberry, exotic spices, mocha and nutty oak on the nose. Juicy, spicy, complex and quite dry, with flavors of redcurrant, tobacco and spices. Finishes with a broad, fine dusting of tannins and plenty of oak. This needs time to knit; indeed, with extended aeration its oak element came into harmony, and its fruit showed much more sweetness and give.
