What to Expect

Port wine is one of the great dessert wines of the world. Based on a blend that usually features Touriga Nacional, vintage Port is a rich red wine witch is fortified with grape spirits. It combines the chewy, tannic bite of red wine with a sweetness that helps buffer the added alcohol and supports the spicy plum and dark berry fruits. Vintage Port is capable of aging and improving for decades. Other types of Port include Ruby Port, which is enjoyed in its youth for it fresh fruit, Tawny Port, which has been aged in wood for years giving it its tawny color and progressively nuttier flavors as the wine increases in age, and Colheita port, which is a Tawny Port from a single vintage.

Winemakers Notes

Warrior is the oldest mark of Port in the world, having been shipped continuously since the 1750s. The
name Warrior was branded on the casks of Warre’s finest Vintage Character wine since the earliest days
of the firm. The traditional style has been maintained over the years and it is today a classic full-bodied
wine with wonderful richness and balance.

VINIFICATION:
Warre’s Warrior under-goes fermentation with natural yeast at between 24-28ºc. Once the must has
fermented to the desired degree of sweetness (usually within 48 hours), fortification takes place with
grape brandy at 77% v/v (generally 80% must / 20% brandy).
AGEING:
Warre’s Warrior is aged in oak casks for some 4 to 5 years at our lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia,.after
which the wines are drawn off and bottled after a light filtration.
TASTING NOTES:
Deep red colour, with intensely rich aromas of ripe red fruits and spices. On the palate well balanced
and full-bodied, with a long and complex finish.
SERVING TIPS:
- Does not need decanting.
- The wine is ready to drink when bottled, but will maintain its quality in bottle.
- Serve at room temperature 18ºc, or slightly chilled in hot weather.
- Superb with cheese, nuts or dried fruit after a meal.
