Warre's Port Tawny Otima 20 Year 2010

Member Review by duncan 906:

I was given this bottle of wine and have no idea where my benefactor got it from or any monies paid.Port wine is from the Douro valley in northern Portugal and takes its name from the City of Oporto at the mouth of that river. It is a fortified wine as brandy is added to arrest the fermentation process.Tawny port is a style of port where there is a long aging in oak barrels resulting in oxidation and a colour more amber than red. My wine spent 20 years in oak barrels before being bottled in 2015.I started my bottle last night with a pl;ate of bread and cheese. It is sweet like honey or syrup with a chery, raisin and sultana style fruit. In spite of 20% ABV the alchol was not that noticable unlike some ports I have tried. In short I thought this a quality bottle

Fresh with plenty of vibrant acidity behind the cocoa vanilla and dried apricot flavors. Spicy and creamy notes linger on the long broad finish. Drink now. -KM Wine Spectator.

A tawny port meaning that this was aged for a long period of time in cask and therefore giving the tawny hue. Light and delicate palate, challenging the perception of Port as a dark and full-bodied after dinner drink.
