The first night I opened this wine, it was massive and closed. On the second night, it opened up. It was expressive and expansive on the palate. What a beautiful Port for the price! It has a long finish with blackberry and blueberry jam flavors.

This is the benchmark for LBV's from my albeit limited experience. Tastes better than lower end (i.e. $40-$50) vintage port. It blew away Taylor Fladgate's similarly priced 2005 LBV (their 2003 was better but I'm out of that) in a blind taste test and is the best LBV I've ever had. Prunes, plums, berries, leather, and earth. Yummy! I'm going to try to stock up while it's available.

This Port house is always underrated, and its 1994 is one of the great surprises of this stupendous vintage. Easier to find than many other '94s, it's harmonious, with impressive balance of sweet fruit and firm yet silky tannins.

Aromas of minerals, berries and wet earth jump out of the glass. Full-bodied and very chewy, with lots of fruit and a long finish. A tough young wine. Warres is flexing its muscles here. Best after 2008.

This is feminine in style, with lovely berry and grapey aromas and flavors. The finish, however, is packed with fruit and tannins. It's got grip. Try after 2000.

A great surprise for the vintage. Displays fabulous concentration and complex character with its layers of very sweet fruit, chocolate and cherry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, adding velvety tannins. Long finish with plenty of grip. Beautiful wine. Try after 2008.

There is plenty of grip and backbone here. Deep purple, with concentrated grape and violet aromas, full-bodied, with huge grapy flavors, excellent backbone and a long finish.

Lovely floral aromas of berries, violets and minerals. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a racy finish. A harmonious yet well-toned Warre. Reminds me of the 1991. Best after 2010.

Winemaker's Notes:

Very dark purple in colour, inky and concentrated. Lovely fresh aromas of violets, layer and layer of ripe blackberry fruit, intensely rich and very full bodied. Sweetness and tannins bind this wine together to form a perfect harmonious structure, a wine which has all the potential to age well into the 2nd half of the 21st century.
