What to Expect

Port wine is one of the great dessert wines of the world. Based on a blend that usually features Touriga Nacional, vintage Port is a rich red wine witch is fortified with grape spirits. It combines the chewy, tannic bite of red wine with a sweetness that helps buffer the added alcohol and supports the spicy plum and dark berry fruits. Vintage Port is capable of aging and improving for decades. Other types of Port include Ruby Port, which is enjoyed in its youth for it fresh fruit, Tawny Port, which has been aged in wood for years giving it its tawny color and progressively nuttier flavors as the wine increases in age, and Colheita port, which is a Tawny Port from a single vintage.

Winemakers Notes

DESCRIPTION

Tremendous backbone with a rich complexity of balanced fruit showing through. This elegant wine has the characteristic Warre flowery nose and its solidity shows it to be a lasting Vintage.

OUR VINTAGE PORT EXPERT'S RECOMMENDATION

This young wine should be allowed to age in its own bottle for at least 15 to 20 years from the time it is bottled to achieve its optimum maturity. For those who prefer to drink their Vintage Port young, 4 to 5 years are sufficient.

Editorial Reviews

Not a particularly good bottle this was disjointed and hot. It had been decanted for about 6 hours but it looks like it may have needed more but really nothing could have really made it much better. it was volatile and a mess. 70pts

Tremendous backbone with rich complexity of balanced fruit, this has the characteristic flowery nose of Warres ports. A very opulant wine.

There is plenty of grip and backbone here. Deep purple, with concentrated grape and violet aromas, full-bodied, with huge grapy flavors, excellent backbone and a long finish. -JS Wine Spectator. A Port wine from Douro in Portugal. 1985 Warre Vintage Port 750ml

Winemaker John Freeman harvested grapes from throughout Columbia Valley to make this richly flavored Cabernet. Aged 17 months in new oak, it offers mouth-filling blackberry fruit highlighted by notes of spice, toast and caramel.

Warre When such a wine becomes available it is sure to be a leader in its field. Warres principal objective is to produce a vintage Port that continues the same superb reputation created by the great Warres vintages of previous generations.

Not as sweet as i'd have expected, the age was showing and it was hot on the nose. There was some nice chocolate, spice and almond notes.
