Walter Hansel Winery Pinot Noir Russian River Valley the North Slope Vineyard 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

A great value for Pinot - this is estate fruit made carefully and with lots of attention. Look for nice cherry fruit with undertones of earth and mushroom. Perfect for turkey and salmon.

It is bordered to the north by the Santa Rosa Creek and to the west by a tributary of the Russian River known as the Laguna de Santa Rosa. This location is ideal for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as the nights and mornings are cooled by coastal fog yet the mid-days warm up to perfect grape ripening temperatures. Rich, opulent, "in-your-face" new-world style. Black cherry and other dark fruits on a velvety smooth palate, with a long finish and good balance. Very food-friendly. Based on the price point, Hansel pinots -and especially South Slope - has become one of my favorite California pinots year after year.

The 2004 Pinot Noir The North Slope (1,085 cases from Dijon clone 115) offers notes of black raspberries, crushed rocks, and flowers. The fabulous bouquet is followed by a sweet entry on the palate, wonderful opulence and richness, and a persistent f... Robert Parker. A dead-ringer for a top-notch premier cru Volnay is the 2004 Pinot Noir Cuvee Alyce. Made from Dijon Clone 777, it offers up hints of sweet strawberries and black cherry liqueur intermixed with flowers and crushed rocks. The lovely texture, full body, purity, elegance, and crisp underlying acidity suggest this gorgeous Pinot Noir will drink well for a decade. Kudos to Stephen Hansel for keeping prices so realistic.

Medium red. Aromas of baked plum, cherry, loam and spices. Sweet, lush and easygoing, with creamy, slightly chunky flavors of red berries and baking spices. Finishes with sweet tannins and an edge of acidity.

The medium to full-bodied 2004 Pinot Noir Cahill Lane's dark ruby color is accompanied by sweet aromas of plums, pomegranates, and flowers, a savory mid-palate, and loads of glycerin and intensity. It should drink beautifully for 8-10 years. Kudos to... Robert Parker. A Pinot Noir wine from California in USA. 2004 Walter Hansel Winery Pinot Noir Cahill Lane 750ml

Readers looking for a more meaty, herbal effort should check out the dark ruby-colored 2004 Pinot Noir Three Rows. It is the most elegant and lighter-styled as well as the most herbaceous Pinot of this group, offering copious quantities of sweet and sour cherries. Kudos to Stephen Hansel for keeping prices so realistic.
