W. H. Smith Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Maritime Vineyard 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 93 points by Wine Enthusiast: Bring on the tuna, either tartare or lightly grilled. This is the perfect wine. It's bone dry, light and silky in the mouth, and crisp in acidity, a lovely, elegant Pinot Noir with modest alcohol that feels just fine. The flavors are of cherries, cola and pomegranates. Beautiful now, and should develop bottle complexity over the next six years.

Passionate for Pinot, in 1994 Bill and Joan purchased 360 acres along the Sonoma Coast on a ridge high above the town of Cazadero. The first vintage of Maritime Ridge Vineyards—the Smith's rising star—was harvested in 2002 and was released in the spring of 2004. Read less

Strawberry, cola, and pomegranate flavors burst on the palate of this Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Toasty vanilla mingles with a well-balanced acidity to create a complex, elegant Pinot with a velvety-smooth texture.

Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 93Shows the precision and control of Smith's previous Maritime Pinot, marked by a tense, exciting structure. Crisp acids and fine, dusty tannins dance with earthy cherry and cola fruit, herbs and oak to create a complex, tremendously rewarding palate experience. Best now through 2010.Wine Tasting NotesThis wine is a stunning fusion of flavors; hints of rose petal and cinnamon on the nose, with just a touch of leather. Dark intense plum and pomegranate flavors flawlessly integrate with the substantial texture of exotic spices and seamless mouthfeel. We are especially satisfied by the long finish and the seamless acid/tannin balance.

The 2006 Maritime Ridge Pinot Noir is from a variety of carefully chosen vineyards all located just miles from the Pacific Ocean. Given the proprietary name, Maritime Vineyard by Bill and Joan Smith, this wine is a perfect blend of fruit from the Hellenthal Vineyard.

Delightfully rich and complex, with wonderful intensity to the vivid, savory black cherry, wild berry, fresh earth and anise notes. Tightly wound, it gains momentum on the finish, keeping a tight focus on the fruit flavors. Best from 2008 through 201... Wine Spectator.
